Sample U-CON Profiles
*************************************************
The User-Configurable (U-CON) driver for KEPServerEX allows users to quickly and easily create a device driver for serial and Ethernet devices for which an off-the-shelf driver is not available (including barcode readers, weigh scales, various sensors, and RTUs).

Users can configure messages to communicate with and manage responses from a variety of devices used in automation through a menu-driven interface. The resulting U-CON project will automatically leverage Kepware's field-proven OPC, DDE, and native server technologies to enhance the reliability and scalability of your solutionand provide guaranteed connectivity
to client applications.

Please direct all support questions to technical.support@kepware.com.

Requirements:

1. KEPServerEX V4.500 and higher

*************************************************
Instructions:

1. Extract the contents of the U-CON_****.zip file

2. Place the .opf U-CON project file(s) in the KEPServerEX or U-CON Protocol Server /Projects folder.

3. Launch either server, and then select File | Open to open the .opf project file.

4. The amount of instructional information with the U-CON Typical Application profiles vary.

   - Review the instructions or profile information included in each .zip file.

   - See additional notes for Typical Application/Device Categories below.

*************************************************
Typical Application/Device Categories

1. Analysis Equipment: Thank you to Stephen Friedenthal of EVSystems for providing the sample U-CON profile.

2. Andon/Digital Displays: Thank you to Entech Signs for briefly providing a digital display for sample profile creation. We'd like to add more samples for Andon Boards and communication-enabled displays, so please contact us if you would like to include a sample for your device.

3. Barcode Scanners: The Zebex scanner is a common barcode device, but there are many other brands with which U-CON is commonly used. Barcode devices must be set to include stop bits in their communication responses.

4. Blenders/Feeders: Thank you to Maguire Products for recommending U-CON for use in injection molding applications.

5. Coding/Marking/Printing: No samples yet. Please send us yours!

6. GPS/NMEA Data: Thank you to Professor Claus Walther Jensen of Svendborg International Maritime Academy (SIMAC) for providing the outstanding instructions for using U-CON to capture NMEA data and make it available to control/HMI applications via OPC. Thank you to Sailsoft for providing NMEA simulation software.

7. Input/Output (IO) data: Thank you to Advantech for providing IO hardware for Kepware's creation of the sample U-CON profile.

8. RFID Readers: No samples yet. Please send us yours!

9. Sensors and Instruments: The Newport Sensor is live outside the Kepware firewall. If you have U-CON installed on your PC and have an internet connection, you can use the sample profile to connect to this device.

10. Vision Systems: No samples yet. Please send us yours!

11. Weigh Scales: Thank you to Mettler Toledo for providing a demo scale for Kepware's creation of the sample U-CON profile.
